The Sydney Post

I was away for a few days in Sydney and I was very impressed with the city’s sense of style. I must say, I was rather daunted approaching people in such unfamiliar terrain.. but, style for style!

Sydneysiders seem to be a lot more polished than bohemianish Melbourne. Even though Melbourne has an “eclectic” style sensibility, it does sometimes become predictable and the norm is what actually looks fresh. I don’t know if this makes much sense (nor do I want to stereotype), but that’s what I found in Sydney… a sense of freshness.

A reminder...

Last week's unaired Melbourne Runway show on SYN 90.7 fm will be aired tomorrow. Please see the earlier post for the line-up of guests. On another note, I'll be away in Sydney for a few days and I'll definitely be roaming the streets to try to capture a few good shots.

CBD – the Stylist

What are you wearing?
Work pants from Carhaart that I’ve cut into shorts, a tank top, a peach coloured old lingerie shawl that I found at Shag.

Are you involved in fashion?
Yes, I’m in retail and starting to be a stylist as well.

How does styling work?
Well, I did a course at RMIT called Visual Merchandising…we did a subject called photo styling and that’s kind of where I found my main passion. At the moment I’m working with a styling called Mellissa Gadston. I’m her assistant.. it’s just like sourcing, putting together outfits for shoots and commercials and stuff.

Ever thought of being a stylist to the stars?
I’ve thought about it. I’ve done a bit of styling for up and coming artists.. you’re kind of a little bit more restricted.

Best styling job so far?
I helped Melissa do sourcing for Fashion Trend Magazine. It was actually a denim luxe story. And that was really fun…I got to deal with a lot of fun people as well.

Finally, what’s your favourite thing about Melbourne?
I love the food and café culture.

Sometimes it happens that a person doesn't feel comfortable taking a photo. With this young lady, I just couldn't let her get away. Sure, its headless but you get the picture.

CBD - Mr. M.A.C

What are you wearing?
All black. I was just working at M.A.C.

Favorite labels?
I really like this new label.. Alpha60 is really cool. It's stuff that's a bit tuff and edgy.

Any make-up tips?
Wear what you're comfortable in. Less is best. Natural skin is totally the trend.. natural and dewy.

Any autumn/winter make-up trends?
Loads of gold. The whole mod look is really in season.

Favorite thing about Melbourne?
Having a person run up to you to take a photo.. haha. And all the diversity. Wearing what you want to wear, doing what you want to do.

LMFF is over. Hope you enjoyed all the fashion, parties and parades. For me, the Designer Awards realy summed up the state of Australian fashion. Watching the nominees showcase really made me feel optimistic and excited about our fashion future.

I also took some photos during the week from the streets..but I seem to be having some problems posting, I will endeavour to post them up tomorrow.

“I can tell you straight up, we have no time to shop, I’d say probably 85% of my Christmas shopping was done online.. we’re extremely time poor,” the lovely Lover duo speak candidly about fashion, life and their inspirations.

Ok, so it's confirmed. Melbourne has great shoes. Discount whatever I've said in the past, this is my favorite. Strangely, these shoes have a sense of minimalism even with all the laces.
